The Outreach Program

Reaching out to programs for neurodiverse communities

Because neurodiverse people can be marginalized by society, they find it difficult to find opportunities where they can explore hobbies and enjoy artistic and recreational activities. We want to create a platform for neurodivergent individuals to have the same opportunities for these activities that neurotypical individuals enjoy.

Melodies in Motion

A curriculum to educate neurodiverse communities in music

Rhythm

Students will learn all about different rhythmic lengths - they will be able to understand the difference between different note lengths and will practice playing these rhythms with simple percussion instruments.

Instruments and Genres

Students will learn about the different eras in music as well as how to differentiate between them. They will also learn about different instruments to find one they would like to play.

Emotions and Expression

Students will learn about the different emotions that they hear and play with music. They will then learn how to express themselves and portray a "story" through their playing. By listening to music, they can learn about the different emotions music can create.

Munch Mates

We visit programs for neurodiverse individuals for lunch to form meaningful connections with them. Neurodiverse individuals tend to become isolated in their programs due to the stigma surrounding neurodiversity, and they crave interactions with people outside of the programs. Through our visits for lunch, we provide the opportunity for them to make new friends and to interact with people outside of their communities. They will also form social skills with these visits that they can utilize outside of the program. Neurodivergent and neurotypical people don't come together often, yet these friendships are necessary to break down the barrier between these two groups.

Play Pals

Often times, neurodivergent children are not accepted by their neurotypical peers in games or sports. We strive to create equity in play opportunities - because neurodivergent children deserve the right to have fun and enjoy games with their peers just as much as neurotypical people. That's when we come in: we organize outdoor and indoor games so that neurodivergent individuals can enjoy playing games in a group setting and to reestablish these recreational opportunities typically hindered to them.
