The Outreach Program
Our visits to programs for neurodiverse communities
Melodies in Motion
A curriculum to educate neurodiverse communities in music
Rhythm
Students will learn all about different rhythmic lengths - they will be able to understand the difference between different note lengths and will practice playing these rhythms with simple percussion instruments.
Notes
Students will learn in how to read notes in treble clef and how these notes sound like. They will then learn how to play these notes on the keyboard and how to sing these notes.
Emotions and Expression
Students will learn about the different emotions that they hear and play with music. They will then learn how to express themselves and portray a "story" through their playing. By listening to music, they can learn about the different emotions music can create.
Instruments and Genres
Students will learn about the different eras in music as well as how to differentiate between them. They will also learn about different instruments to find one they would like to play.
Performance
Students will learn how to perform their best in concert settings considering factors such as performance anxiety. They will have the opportunity to listen to performances from youth musicians and play in concerts themselves.
Learn an Instrument
Students will have the opportunity to try out different instruments offered and taught by Welcome Neurodiversity members in our "Instrument Sampling Day" program. They can then decide to take lessons offered by our members.
Munch Mates
Lunch with neurodiverse individuals
We visit programs for neurodiverse individuals for lunch to get to know them better and to play games. Neurodiverse individuals tend to become isolated in their programs due to the stigma surrounding neurodiversity and crave interactions with people outside of the programs. Through our visits for lunch, we provide the opportunity for them to make new friends and to interact with people outside of their communities. They will also form social skills with these visits that they can utilize outside of the program.

Play Pals
Recreational activities for neurodivergent people
Often times, neurodivergent children are not accepted by their neurotypical peers in games or sports. We strive to create equity in play opportunities - because neurodivergent children deserve the right to have fun and enjoy games with their peers just as much as neurotypical people. That's when we come in: we organize outdoor and indoor games so that neurodivergent individuals can enjoy playing games in a group setting.
